The Duncraig Adventure Hub, an outdoor community facility in Perth, Australia, boasts an impressive audio and lighting system designed by ETC Solutions and Cablewise AV (CAV). This innovative project aimed to create an inclusive space for all age groups, with a particular focus on attracting a female audience to the roller disco rink. The system's design and installation required a high level of expertise and attention to detail, ensuring ease-of-use operability and a seamless integration of audio and lighting components.
The roller disco rink's centerpiece is a set of four technology towers, each featuring CAV's custom-designed LED lights and K-array Kayman-KY102 line array speakers. These towers provide a dynamic and immersive experience, with rotational movement, light pattern effects, and full RGBW colour mixing. The audio system is powered by a Kommander-KA208 8x2,500W DSP amplifier, ensuring high-quality sound and precise control.
One of the project's unique challenges was the design of the towers themselves. ETC Solutions had to work closely with manufacturers to create a custom solution that met the client's specifications. The towers' slim dimensions and the requirement for high SPL levels and full-range audio properties presented a complex engineering problem, which was ultimately solved by the use of K-array Kayman-KY102 speakers.
The audio and lighting system is fully integrated and automated, with a Q-SYS Core 110f processor hosting shows according to the time of day and theme. The system is also highly adaptable, supporting community events, performances, and special occasions. The user-friendly interface, designed in collaboration with programmers and stakeholders, ensures that the system is easy to operate, even for those without technical expertise.
The project's success is evident in the positive feedback from end users and the achievement of the client's goals. The roller disco rink has successfully attracted an 85% female audience, balancing the facility's more male-focused skate and bike components. The system's high-quality audio and lighting have also been praised by DJs and event organizers, making it a standout feature of the Duncraig Adventure Hub.
